We have submitted a funding bid to Comic Relief for a member of staff to work specifically on Diversity issues, ensuring that we are reaching all people who may define themselves as from Black and Minority Ethnic Groups, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Groups, Sensory Impaired Groups etc. and who have, or have had Mental Health problems. We have also asked for a small amount of funding for Administration support as it is done on an ad-hoc basis at the moment.

THIS IS THE ACTUAL EXTRACT FROM THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT LETTER:

"Participation

We look forward to meeting with  NHS Board Chief Executives, members of the Executive team and appropriate Local Authority representatives as well as those most appropriate to the suggested agenda..  We would also encourage the participation of local user/carer and voluntary organisations in these discussions and look to you to make arrangements for this.  To this end we have made public the list of review visits and have encouraged VOX (Voices of Experience) to work with Boards and local user and carer groups to explore potential participation.

On the theme of participation, team from the Executive has been expanded to reflect our commitment to work with Boards in partnerships around key delivery aspects of the Delivery Plan.  This is:

  • Geoff Huggins, Deputy Director, Mental Health
  • Alex McMahon, Head, Mental Health Delivery and Services Unit and Mental Health and Learning Disability Nursing Advisor
  • Dr Denise Coia, Principal Medical Officer (Mental Health)
  • Linda Reid, Senior Liaison Officer, Social Work Advisor
  • Margo Fyfe, CAMHS Nurse Advisor
  • Heather Keeney, Programme Manager, Mental Health Collaborative"

We would strongly encourage you to attend to ensure that the position the NHS Board is representing agrees with what you, as a service user in the area, are experiencing. If you are interested in attending, contact your local mental health service user group -VOX can help you find one of these in your locality or region.
